Sozopol Harbour

The Sozopol Harbour looking from Southwest towards Northeast

Sozopol Harbour is divided in sections - a marina, a commercial section for the modern fishing vessels and a section for the old, small fishing boats. There is a naval base on the island across the outer breaker.

In this evening view you can see some of the more modern fishing boats on the left, and Old Sozopol to the right.

The leisure marina is at the bottom South end of the harbour.

A wide difference between small and old boats and large, new yachts

There are boats in Sozopol Harbour, however, that are too big to fit in the leisure marina. You can wonder how Bulgarians can afford such large motorboats, but there they are.

At the bottom of the harbour, next to the outer breaking pier, you find the fishing harbour for the old style fishing boats. The naval base is on the other side.

The calssical fishing boats at the quay in Sozopol Harbour

This kind of fishing boats make it very obvious that Sozopol is an ancient Greek colony, still located just a few hundred kilometers from Greece. Only the Cyrillic letters on the boats tell you that you are not in Greece.
